Ferries, Foot Injuries and Footgolf

This morning we got up early (compared to other days recently) and collected our stuff and went down to reception. We were picked up at half 8, on time, and taken down to the pier. From there we got straight on the boat do a 9am departure which was fairly prompt. It was very different to our other experiences with ferries recently. It was almost a shock to the system. We had paid a little bit extra to get a faster boat that took half the time of the slow one. The sea was very choppy. There were huge waves and the boat was jumping over them, rocking crazily from side to side. There were people throwing up left, right and centre. Lauren looked a bit peaky but managed to survive. The sea.became a lot calmer as we reached Koh Phanghan, around 10:50, and on to Koh Samui, our destination. We arrived into pier past the Big Buddha statue ad with planes for the nearby airport flying low overhead at around 11:45.

We got a taxi to our hostel and checked in almost straight away. The description on hostelworld described the beds as individual pods that allowed for privacy. I think they look more like a jail cell. Lauren commented it was like solitary confinement. Each bed is a mattress in what is essentially a little concrete box, with a sliding wooden door, a TV and a little fan to let the aircon on. There's about 10 on one side, double layered and some double bed boxes on the other. We are next to each other but have to yell or text to communicate. We are both on upper levels. The ladders to the upper levels have been put to the side of the door so the person underneath can get out,  however this means they are in front of the fan, and as I discovered twice, this can lead to painful foot injuries. The first time it just bruised it and left it very sore. The second time the fan cut my toe and I got blood all over the floor. Now I have to awkwardly climb round the fan which makes it with hard to get into the box.

After plastering my foot we went out for food and to organise our short time here. We went into a tour office and Lauren had hiccups.  We were looking at leaflets when tge woman at the desk pointed out Lauren had a spider in her hair. She had an absolute heartattack and I was looking at her hair so I could get it out. Then the woman started laughing, saying there wasn't really a spider. Then she pointed out Lauren's hiccups had gone. She was a very sneaky woman! We left with so leaflets and returned later to book a tour.

For lunch we went to the Pizza Company and had cheese breads ticks as a snack and refillable Pepsi. Then we returned to the hostel. It was around 3pm by this time and I was ready for a nap. We relaxed for about an hour and then at 4 we were picked up to go and play footgolf. Just before we left it started chucking it down. We got very wet on the way to the course. For those of you who don't know, footgolf is a cross between football and golf where you kick a football and try and get it into a hole in as few shots as possible. When we reached the footgolf course we sat and waited for a while for the rain to pass. Then we played a round of 18 holes. Lauren beat me by 8 shots. I was fairly decent at getting the ball to the green in a minimal amount of shots  but the amount of times the ball rolled around the edge of the hole, or even bounced out of the hole off the wall was so frustrating! We managed to finish the game without getting too wet, before having a free drink and getting a free keyring and returning to the hostel. My cut toe was very sore by the end.

Upon our return we showered and got changed and then went out for dinner to a little market type place across from the hostel. I had fried rice and Lauren had chicken and rice, and then we returned to the hostel to prepare for tomorrow's trip and to relax in our pods.
