Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai

Today we had a fairly relaxed day. We got up around 10 and packed up our stuff to check out. We left out bags at the hostel and just went for a wander. We had a look at Wat Jedyod which was quite fancy and had a big gold Buddha at the back.  Then we wandered to 'First Church' which was a Christian church. It wasn't really that remarkable but we sat inside for a little while as it was cool compared to the boiling outside temperature.

Next we wandered to the Thai Gardens, which again weren't anything remarkable. We got a drink from a nearby shop and sat for a while in the shade just chatting. Around half 12 we wandered off to find lunch.

We found a little cafe filled with Thai people that had very cheap food. I had roast duck in some kind of sauce and rice for 50 baht. That's about £1.10. It was delicious. Lauren had chicken wings and chips for about £3. We then went back to the hostel to collect our bags.

We were picked up by a tuktuk at 2:15 to go to the bus station. We had to sit for a while to wait for the bus to turn up. As usual they tell you to get there a set amount of time before departure but the transport isn't there and everyone ends up just hanging around. We were sitting in the shade but still sweating it was so hot. Eventually the bus turned up, we got our assigned seats and set off, only ten minutes late.

The bus stopped several times to pick people up from random roadside locations and was almost full. We got free water and snacks and a cold towel during the journey which was nice. We arrived in Chiang Mai at around 18:30.

We got a tuktuk to our hostel, checked in and went out to the shop to get a small snack and a drink. Then we spent the evening looking at activities to do whilst we are here.
