Jet Ski Tour with Thomas

Today we had a relaxed morning, just hanging about at the hostel before going to brunch at Nira's home bakery. I had an amazing pesto, mozzarella and ham bagel. Then we went back to the hostel to chill. At 2pm we got ready to go on a jetski tour.

We had heard many stories of people being scammed after hiring jetskis. They hire them for 15 minutes and then when they return them they get told there's damage to the jetski that they have to pay for. When the customer refuses to pay, the jetski people call the police, who they are working with, so the person is forced to pay. We think we saw it happen to a group of people the other day. But I'd done some research and booked a 3 hour tour around the island for Lauren for her birthday with a company that had had many many good reviews on TripAdvisor. The guy who owned the company was a French guy called Thomas and he'd been really helpful, waiving the deposit so if Lauren hadn't wanted to do I could cancel easily.

At 2:15pm we headed down to the beach and to the meeting place Thomas has emailed me about. There were several jetski companies but none seemed to have the same name as the one we booked with and we couldn't see Thomas (who had been in pictures on his website) anywhere. As half 2 came and passed we went to see if the nearest jetski company to the meeting point was the right one and it turned out it was.  Thomas wasn't there but the guy who was running the tour (Zoot (sp?)) rang Thomas on his phone so we could talk to him and be reassured it was the right person. Zoot didn't speak much English so weren't sure at first what we was saying when he claimed to be Thomas. But it turned out he worked for Thomas so we got life jackets on, put our stuff in a compartment in the front of the jetski and off we went.

We booked a group tour with one jetski that we took turns driving as you paid per jetski. There was only one other person on the tour so it was pretty good. Lauren took the first turn and we went out to a beach where we did some (average) snorkeling. Then it was my go and we drove out to another beach and did a five minute walk to a waterfall, which was nice. We had a drink in the bar and then hopped back on the jetskis. We started heading back to the start point, swapping over drivers a few times.  Then when we got back to Haad Rin beach we were given 15 minutes to just ride around. It was so so much fun. We got absolutely soaked and we were going flying over waves at a really high speed but it was so fun. We got back to the beach and took some photos and thanked the guides and off we went. No scams, no trouble, no problems. We had a fab afternoon.

We returned to the hostel and showered and then went out to dinner at an Italian restaurant that had really good reviews and some girls in our room mentioned to us. The pizza was huge but we had been warned so we only got one to share. We wandered around the village to find somewhere to book a boat onwards to our next stop tomorrow. The streets are so quiet and the beach was so dead today. Everyone flocks in for the full moon party and then once it's over everyone leaves again. We returned to the hostel to pack and relax.
