Today we got the 9:15am bus to Brisbane which was only an hour and a half journey. Whilst taking my bag off to load it onto the bus I managed to hurt my arm and now have two nice bruises on my bicep (or where my bicep would be if I had any muscles). It was really hot and sunny when we left Surfers Paradise and when we got to Brisbane it was overcast and cloudy but still real hot. It was a ten minute walk to the hostel where we dumped our bags and went out for a wander.
We got a free ferry down the river and back. Thankfully it was covered as it was raining on and off. It took an hour for the round trip and had almost stopped raining by the time we got off. After the ferry we walked down Queen Street Mall which is basically a pedestrianised road with shops on. We wandered down to look at post office square which wasn't that remarkable and to a cathedral that was more like a church. We then started to wander back towards the hostel. Just as we got back to Queen Street Mall it started chucking it down. It was still a 20 minute walk and we had no waterproofs or umbrellas or anything. We sat for a while under cover hoping for it to stop before eventually deciding to get an uber which was free as we had a code for first time users. After we got back it started with really loud thunder and lightening.
We stayed in until around 6pm and then went out for dinner at a place called Guilty Rogue. By this time it had stopped raining but we took our raincoats anyway. We had dinner and watched the end of a beer pong tournament. After the tournament had finished we had a couple of games ourselves with some random dudes we invited to play. We didn't actually use beer (neither had the tournament). Presumably it would have been very expensive and a massive waste as so much was spilt. I wasn't very good but managed to get a couple of ping pong balls in the cups.
Afterwards we came home and showered. I'm really looking forward to sleeping in a nice air conditioned room, rather than the sweatbox we were in last night. Tomorrow we're going to do mor exploring of the city, hopefully in better weather conditions!
