This morning we got up. packed our stuff, had what is fast becoming our daily helping of chocolate pancakes, checked out of the hostel and got an 8am sleeper bus to Hue. I didn't actually do any sleeping but having reclined seats with lots of leg room is a good way to do a four hour bus journey. This is not particularly true when you have a bruised bum. Sitting is fine, lounging back puts pressure on the sore area.
The further south we went, the hotter it got, although it still wasn't blue skies and sunshine. We arrived in Hue at around 12:30 and walked all over 50 metres to our hostel, where we were quickly checked in to a four bed dorm. The room is small but the beds are really wide. Plus there is air conditioning which is definitely needed. It's 9pm and still 27°.
We walked to the nearest shop to get a drink and packet of crisps before returning to the hostel to relax for a bit. Then we went for a stroll round the town. We saw a place called 'Why Not?' that did cheeseburger and chips, with a drink for 75,000 dong. That's about £2.70. We followed the advice of the name and took advantage of the deal. After we had eaten we got some snacks for tomorrow as we are doing a day tour of Hue and the surrounding temples and returned to the hostel. We did some general life admin and chilled.
After a couple of hours, around 6:30pm, we went out to explore the town. It was almost completely dark by this point. We wandered a short distance down to the night market by the river, which was a tad smaller than expected. Lauren got a cute little bracelet that she designed herself. Everywhere was lit up and the bridge over the river was changing colours. It was really pretty. We wandered along the river front, stopping to sit for a drink at a floating restaurant, before continuing on our way. We browsed the shops and I ended up buying some trousers and a top. On our earlier visit out I had also bought a bag as the one I bought to replace one that broke, broke. Hopefully this one will last longer. We returned to the hostel around 9pm.
Loving the sleeper bus concept!
