Everyone will be pleased to hear we survived the night with none of the expected aftershocks from earthquakes that went off near Christchurch on Wednesday night.
We got up around half 6 to catch a 7:45am intercity bus to Dunedin. It took forever and the route was not particularly scenic but we had ipods and WiFi to keep us entertained. We had double seats to ourselves so had room to spread out.
We arrived into Dunedin around 2pm and walked 20 minutes to the hostel in the rain. We're in a ten bed dorm that smells of cheesy feet. But it's only for one night. We dumped our bags and headed out to see the city in the short time we have here. We had a quick wander round St Paul's cathedral and past the town hall, then we headed to Cadbury world. We didn't go in and do the tour as we're on a budget but we did have cake in the cafe. It wasn't as good as the price suggested. We didn't buy any chocolate either as we figured it would just melt. It was so cheap though.
After Cadbury world we wandered down the main streets looking at the shops and restaurants before heading back to the hostel to chill for about 45 minutes. Then we walked about 10 miles (not literally) to Pizza Hut to treat ourselves as we'll probably be eating a lot of noodles and rice in the coming weeks, and it was only $5 for a large. On the way we encountered a large group of presumably uni students in fancy dress, that were following the commands of the group leader, doing things such as star jumps and press-ups. We think uni students have just started back so it's probably a freshers thing. After we'd eaten we wandered back and prepared ourselves for our flights tomorrow.
I have absolutely loved New Zealand. I'm sad to leave but looking forward to Vietnam at the same time. I have no idea what it's going to be like and I have no idea what the WiFi situation will be at the places we visit and stay so blog posts may become less frequent but I will update at every opportunity.
