5 Pagodas and a Non-existent Night Market

Today we had a very easy day as neither of us got much sleep last night. We hung round the hostel for a while, having breakfast and relaxing. Around 12pm we were able to check in to our room so we took our bags up there and then came back down to complete the paperwork. We sat around the hostel until around 2pm, planning the rest of the trip and then decided to go for a wander round the town, as we are going out of town activities tomorrow.

Our hostel is on the road along the river so we wandered down, stopping at 3 different pagodas on the way. The first one seemed to have accommodation for monks out the front of it. It was basically a block of flats but was a lot dirtier and scruffy-looking than you'd have thought for where such spiritual people live. Most of the pagodas we saw today in general were a bit more unpolished than all the ones we'd seen so far. Presumably this was because they were local temples rather than big tourist attractions.

The second pagoda had a nice garden area and the last pagoda had a fancy entrance way. All of them had a lot of (what I guessed were) tomb type monumental turrets around the main building and a lot of them had coloured strips of cloth draped over them. We don't really know why. It might be something to do with the impending new year celebrations.

We stopped for a drink between the 4th and 5th pagodas and looked for the night market which had been pointed out to is earlier by a tuktuk driver. He told us it started at half 3 and was along the river but we couldn't find it anywhere. Instead we just carried on to the 5th pagoda which was near the hostel, completing our circuit.
We got back to the hostel,  sorted ourselves out and then around half 6 had dinner at the hostel.  I had Ban Chao  (sp? ) -  khmer pancakes filled with pork, beansprouts and onion. Lauren had spaghetti carbonara.
Then we went back to the room, which was like a sauna and laid down very still in an attempt not to over heat.
