Today was our last full day in Australia. Tomorrow we are flying to Auckland.
We had a very chill day. This morning we went to Backpackers World Travel, which is a travel agents, to sort some stuff for New Zealand. We got the tram there as all the trams inside a certain city zone are free. Apparently Melbourne has the largest tram network in the world. We walked back to the hostel after we were done and got our stuff to go to the beach. It wasn't ridiculously hot and we weren't planning on sunbathing so we didn't take bikinis or towels.
We walked to Flinders Street Station (which is a nice building) and got the train at around 1pm to Brighton Beach as we heard they had real nice colourful beach huts and it was only 20 minutes away. When we got there we walked about 2 minutes to the beach and walked all the way along until we found the huts. We got an amazing view of the Melbourne skyline on the way. Pictures don't do it justice.
The beach huts were pretty cool and all were painted differently. There was about 90 in total. One was painted like the Aussie flag, one had a VW camper on, one had a kangaroo and most of the others were just bright and colourful. We sat on the beach for a while just watching the world go by. It was quite sunny but not too hot. It was really nice.
At around quarter past five we started walking back to the train. We didn't know the train times so weren't really rushing. When we were in sight of the level crossing I made a comment to Lauren as a joke, that if we saw the level crossing go down, to start running. Within moments of me saying it, the lights on the crossing starting flashing and we could see the train coming. We had to run to the station and scan our tickets and hop on the train really fast. Thankfully we made it, slightly out of breath and very hot.
The journey back was short and we got the tram straight away from outside the station back to the hostel.
Our last night in Australia will probably consist of cooking, showering and packing. Our flight tomorrow is at 16:20 so we will have the morning to just hang around the city, taking in the last of Australian sun.
